Engine 5

 The Port Jefferson Fire Department consists of 5 companies. Hook & Ladder, Co. #1, Suwassett Engine & Hose, Co. #2, Rescue Engine & Hose Co. #3, Patrol & Salvage Co. #4 and Marine Co. #5.

Each company has always been equipped with the best fire fighting equipment the fire district can afford. The men proudly care and maintain it all in keeping with the traditions handed down from the beginning in 1887.

Organized in 1964, Marine Co. 5 is the youngest Company in the Port Jefferson Fire Dept. The original reason for forming a fifth company was to better maintain two specialized pieces of equipment that the Department had acquired. The first was a 1942 Army surplus "DUKW" or "DUCK" as the Department named it.

The second was a 1950 "DODGE POWER WAGON" used mostly for brush fires.
